Fortinet launches FortiDLP: prevent data loss with help from AI

fortinet

Fortinet is launching FortiDLP. That’s a solution to help organizations prevent data loss, whether intentional or unintentional, via external intruders or their own employees.

Fortinet introduces a new AI-supported solution for data protection and insider risk management with FortiDLP. DLP stands for Data Loss Prevention. The solution provides organizations with an integrated approach to prevent data loss, both intentional and unintentional, in the cloud, within applications and across devices.

Overview and detection

FortiDLP joins Fortinet’s existing DLP capabilities and, like all of the company’s solutions, is part of the Fortinet Security Fabric. By integrating with Next DLP’s cloud-native platform, FortiDLP can secure data and detect risks from within.

Organizations gain automated visibility and protection of data traffic thanks to preset policies and machine learning, which creates a baseline for normal behavior. This helps identify anomalous behavior.

In addition, FortiDLP provides insider risk protection by analyzing employee actions and behavior patterns. Based on this information, the solution can block risky actions, such as attempts to move sensitive data to unauthorized channels. In other words, if an employee who never shifts data just before the end of his contract wants to copy five terabytes of data from an internal server to an external drive, alarm bells will go off.

SaaS and ChatGPT

FortiDLP provides visibility into employee interactions with SaaS applications. The solution monitors the transfer of data between the cloud and endpoints and provides all SaaS solutions in use with a risk score. This helps companies gain visibility into data traffic and identify potential risks.

With visibility into the use of unapproved applications, FortiDLP enables organizations to ensure data security so that employees can still safely use tools such as ChatGPT.

FortiDLP further protects origin-based data through its Secure Data Flow feature, which provides control over outbound data traffic and the use of external storage media such as USB sticks, according to Fortinet.

Aware of the risks

Education is another relevant aspect of FortiDLP: the solution can display notifications that make employees aware of data risks, helping them take responsibility for themselves in data management. In addition, FortiDLP provides an AI assistant that analyzes risky activities and makes recommendations based on MITRE Engenuity’s knowledge database, allowing security teams to understand potential threats faster.
