Cloudflare Extends Its ZTNA Solution with Post-Quantum Cryptography. From Mid-2025, Support Will Be Expanded to All IP Protocols.
Cloudflare integrates post-quantum cryptography into its Zero Trust Network Access solution. This is intended to protect organizations against future cyber threats arising from the development of quantum computers. With this expansion, companies can encrypt their internet traffic with technology that is resistant to attacks from quantum computers, which are expected to be able to break current cryptographic techniques.

The new security layer is immediately available and ensures end-to-end quantum-secure connectivity between web browsers and business applications. From mid-2025, Cloudflare will expand support to all IP protocols. This means that organizations can secure their internet traffic without separate upgrades, regardless of the business applications or devices used. With this, Cloudflare anticipates the expected risks that quantum computers pose to current encryption techniques.
Not a Distant Future
Cloudflare does not consider quantum computers as a distant future. The company predicts that businesses have about five years to adapt to quantum computers. According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), existing cryptographic algorithms must be replaced by post-quantum alternatives by 2030. Recent breakthroughs in chip technology by Microsoft and AWS should make the first usable quantum computers possible soon.
However, experts warn that risks could arise within five years. Cybercriminals can already intercept and store encrypted data to crack it later with quantum computers. This underscores the need for new security measures.

Canadian Company Claims Quantum Supremacy, but Academics Disagree
Cloudflare claims to play a leading role in the development and standardization of post-quantum cryptography. The company offers its customers free access to this technology as standard. Currently, 35 percent of human-generated internet traffic via Cloudflare already uses quantum-secure encryption.
Cloudflare’s quantum-secure Secure Web Gateway and clientless Access network configurations are immediately available. From mid-2025, the WARP client-to-tunnel network configuration will also be supported. By installing the Cloudflare WARP client on end-user devices, organizations can make their network traffic completely quantum-secure, regardless of location or connection type. Cloudflare works with businesses and governments to enable a secure transition to post-quantum cryptography.
