1Password for Agents lets AI agents log in without a password

1Password launches 1Password for Agents, a platform that lets personal AI agents log in to websites without seeing your passwords. Users approve every request themselves.

1Password has announced 1Password for Agents, a platform that gives personal AI agents access to credentials without actually letting them see those credentials. The company wants to combine control and convenience as agents take over more tasks. The problem is a familiar one: as soon as an agent reaches a login page, it stops. Users then have to log in themselves or paste their password into a prompt. The first option is slow, and the second gives the agent access that can extend beyond the task itself.

A few months ago, 1Password introduced Privileged Access, which lets you grant people and AI agents temporary, task-bound access rights.

How the approval works

An agent requests a login from the user’s vault. If the user approves the request, 1Password fills in the details directly on the destination site. The agent itself never gets access to the credentials, the password or a one-time code.

According to the company, users decide which agents get access and when. They can see what is being shared and disconnect the integration at any time. If a password changes, a single update in the vault is enough, and connected agents keep using the current login.

According to 1Password, browser password managers are not designed to let an agent log in on behalf of the user. Agents cannot use passwords that are stored in the browser or in notes.

Integrations with agents

At launch, there are integrations for Muse from Meta, Claude Duet from Anthropic, ChatGPT Work and dots from OpenAI and Grok Bot from SpaceXSI. Muse and Grok Bot will get the integration on all platforms in the coming days. For Claude Duet and ChatGPT Work and dots, it will follow soon.

With Muse, a user can for example have an invitation created, RSVPs tracked and supplies searched for within a budget. Muse requests access to RSVPify and Oriental Trading, after which the user chooses which login it may use. The rest of the vault remains out of reach.

1Password for Agents is available at no extra cost for Individual and Family accounts on 1Password.com. Accounts on 1Password.eu or 1Password.ca are not supported for the time being. Availability, platforms and features vary by partner.

Developers who are building a personal agent themselves can integrate with the platform to give users a secure way to approve logins. The company says it is building new integrations every day.
