Qnap Introduces Compact 10GbE Switch for Small Businesses

Qnap expands its network switch offering with the QSW-L3205-1C4T: a small 10GbE switch aimed at small businesses seeking higher network performance.

Qnap launches the QSW-L3205-1C4T. Behind this seemingly complex name lies an accessible switch tailored for smaller environments seeking higher network performance.

The QSW-L3205-1C4T features four RJ45 ports that support 10GbE and one 10GbE combo port that handles both SFP+ and RJ45. In total, the switch offers a switching capacity of 100 Gbps. According to Qnap, the combination of multi-gigabit and fiber optic options allows users to flexibly expand their existing infrastructure.

More Features

With this model, Qnap targets users who currently use a simple unmanaged switch but require more speed and basic management functions. The Lite-managed switch supports features such as VLAN segmentation, Quality of Service (QoS), and link aggregation (LACP). These functions help to prioritize or isolate network traffic. This can be important in environments where, for example, video editing and backups occur simultaneously. Qnap specifically mentions small studios as a prime target audience.

The switch also supports Jumbo frames and IGMP Snooping, making it suitable for applications such as video streaming, NAS connections, and camera surveillance. The QSW-L3205-1C4T has no fan onboard and thus operates silently, enabling its placement in an office environment.

Qnap points out that the switch can be quickly discovered, configured, and managed through the use of the Qnap Switch System (QSS) and the Qfinder Pro tool. Firmware updates can also be performed via this interface.

Qnap positions the switch as an accessible option for small businesses looking to improve their network performance without transitioning to complex network management or larger managed switches. For those requiring more ports, Qnap launched the QSW-L3208-2C6T this summer: a similar device equipped with twice as many connections.
