Qnap Integrates Nx Witness Video Security Platform into NAS

Qnap partners with Network Optix to integrate the Nx Witness video security platform. This platform now runs smoothly on the manufacturer’s NAS devices.

Qnap collaborates with Network Optix to directly integrate the Nx Witness VMS (video management system) platform into its NAS devices. This allows organizations to combine the video management system and storage on a single physical device. The solution targets users who want to expand their camera security without modifying their existing infrastructure.

The integration enables running Nx Witness VMS within a virtual machine on the Qnap NAS. Simultaneously, the same NAS serves as storage for video footage. This is intended to simplify installation and management, and reduce costs for separate servers. The combination is aimed at applications in retail, city surveillance, and system integration projects, among others.

Storage and VMS on One Device

Qnap NAS devices can be directly connected via the SMB protocol as a storage location for the Nx Witness platform. Footage can be backed up to the cloud or another NAS using Qnap solutions such as HBS3. With JBOD expansion units, storage volume can grow to petabytes. RAID technology protects images against data loss in case of disk problems.

For those wanting to integrate the Nx Witness platform, Qnap offers the option to deploy it as a virtual machine on the NAS via Virtualization Station. By using SSDs for the platform itself and HDDs for image storage, the system can deliver higher performance. Support for multi-core processors and network connections up to 100 GbE should ensure smooth processing of high resolutions up to 8K.

Lucrative Market

Network Optix offers video management software used in sectors such as city security, transportation, and manufacturing. With this collaboration, Qnap aims to strengthen its position in the video surveillance market without having to develop its own VMS solution. Users already working with Nx Witness can now opt for an integrated approach where one device combines storage, server functionality, and management. Video surveillance is increasingly becoming a focal point for NAS manufacturers, who see it as a lucrative market. The collaboration fits into this vision.
