Qnap launches the TS-h1655XeU-RP, a storage server for critical environments with dual power supplies and built-in 10 GbE.
With the TS-h1655XeU-RP, Qnap releases a new shallow rackmount NAS with 10 GbE, aimed at environments with limited rack depth. NAS is a broad term here: in fact, Qnap is bringing a robust storage server to the market.
The 3U chassis is 29.6 centimeters deep and fits in shallow racks in server rooms, edge locations, AV setups, and surveillance environments. The combination of drive bays and four NVMe slots is intended for a mix of capacity and performance in one system.
Inside, Qnap uses an 8-core Intel Atom processor with support for AES-NI encryption acceleration and Intel QuickAssist Technology for hardware compression and decompression.
ECC and Redundancy
The memory is expandable up to 64 GB and supports ECC, which should enhance reliability in mission-critical applications. In this regard, the TS-h1655XeU-RP is also equipped with dual power supplies. This redundancy is meant to minimize unexpected downtime when one power supply fails.
For network connectivity, the device offers two standard 2.5 GbE ports and one 10 GbE port. Two PCIe Gen3 slots allow for the installation of 25 GbE adapters. With this, Qnap targets high-bandwidth workloads such as virtualization, backup to central storage, and video surveillance.
QuTS Hero and ZFS
The TS-h1655XeU-RP runs on QuTS hero. This operating system from Qnap itself supports ZFS. The NAS offers twelve 3.5-inch SATA bays for hard drives and four E1.S/M.2 PCIe NVMe slots. The latter can be used by organizations for SSD caching, fast storage pools, or additional 10 GbE connectivity via an E1.S-to-10 GbE module.
QuTS hero brings typical ZFS features to the NAS, including self-healing, inline deduplication, and compression. The software also supports SnapSync for disaster recovery and WORM protection for immutable datasets. With this, Qnap positions the system as a platform for backup, archiving, and collaboration.
Qnap positions the NAS for organizations that want to combine central storage and virtualization in compact racks. The server will be available soon and has a recommended price of 3,543 euros excl. VAT.
