Samsung launches a tri-fold smartphone, but not yet in the EU

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung is bringing a new type of foldable smartphone to market with the Galaxy Z TriFold. The device folds open twice to create a 10-inch screen.

The Galaxy Z TriFold combines the size of a classic smartphone with an expandable screen that unfolds to a 10-inch workspace. When open, the screen space equals three 6.5-inch smartphones side by side. This way, Samsung aims to offer one device for calling, working, presenting, and video.

In an official announcement, the brand states that the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected on December 12, 2025 in Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the US. Europe is not mentioned for now. The price also remains a mystery for the time being.

New folding construction

The TriFold uses an inward-folding design to protect the main screen. Two hinges with a dual-rail structure provide the folding mechanism. According to Samsung, this reduces the gap between panels and keeps the device thinner and more portable. A warning system with vibrations alerts the user to incorrect folding.

The housing contains a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset for Galaxy, a 200 MP camera, and a three-part 5,600 mAh battery. The battery cells are distributed across the three panels for even weight distribution. The device supports 45W fast charging via cable.

Large screen

With the Galaxy Z TriFold, users can run three apps side by side in portrait mode, freely rearrange windows, and use a taskbar in the bottom right to quickly return to recent apps. Standard apps like My Files and Samsung Health have been adapted for the larger screen.

Notably, DeX runs fully standalone on a phone for the first time. Users can open up to four workspaces with five apps each, and optionally connect a second screen in extended mode. With an external monitor, Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the TriFold transforms into a portable desktop setup.

This summer, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7, which our editors examined. Whether and when the new tri-fold smartphone will come to Europe remains to be seen.
