Qnap launches QuTScloud c5.2. The update adds, among other things, the new Security Center, which detects ransomware threats and implements protective measures. The functionality is similar to that of QTS 5.2 for the NAS.
Qnap introduces QuTScloud c5.2. QuTScloud is a cloud-based service from Qnap, where users get access to a virtual NAS running on a server in the public cloud. The QuTScloud c5.2 operating system therefore reflects the functionalities of the local NAS OS, which has been running on version 5.2 for quite some time.
The main addition to QuTScloud c5.2 is also here the Security Center. This tool actively monitors file activities and can automatically create backups or block access in case of suspicious behavior. This way, Qnap aims to protect data against ransomware, cyber threats, and unintended data loss.
Additionally, the update provides support for OpenSSL LTS 3.0.9, which should ensure the security of network communications. According to Qnap, the new Kernel Mode SMB Daemon technology enables faster SMB transfers within cloud NAS environments.
QuTScloud c5.2 also introduces improved backup and recovery options. Users can backup and selectively restore system settings, such as network configurations and access rights.
Ease of Use
In addition to security and performance improvements, the update brings simplified Active Directory (AD) domain login. Users within an AD domain can now log in directly with their domain credentials, without additional settings.
Furthermore, administrators can save an installation list of applications and upload it to myQnapcloud. This enables faster reinstallation of apps during migration or on multiple Cloud NAS instances.
QuTScloud offers the same functionalities as Qnap’s physical QTS operating system. It supports various file protocols (CIFS/SMB, NFS, AFP, and iSCSI) and integrates with Qnap cloud storage services via HybridMount or VJBOD Cloud. Features such as snapshots, version control, and AI-driven photo management via QuMagie remain available.
The availability of QuTScloud c5.2 on public cloud platforms may vary by provider. The cloud NAS is available on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OVH Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and others.
