ChatGPT Search, the search function within ChatGPT, is growing rapidly in Europe according to OpenAI.
A new report from OpenAI Ireland shows that ChatGPT Search has an average of 41.3 million European users per month. Last year, that number was only 11.2 million.
Digital Services Act Guidelines
If this growth rate continues, ChatGPT Search will soon fall under the guidelines of the European Digital Services Act (DSA). This legislation imposes additional obligations on online platforms in European countries. Failure to comply with the guidelines can result in fines of up to 6 percent of their global turnover.
From 45 million monthly users, ‘very large’ online platforms must not only share certain data with researchers or authorities. There must also be an option for users to turn off personalized recommendations. The DSA defines monthly active users as individuals who use the service at least once because they request or receive information via the online interface of the platform.
Google Remains Number One
Google remains the largest search engine for now, writes TechCrunch. According to an estimate, Google currently receives 373 times more search queries than ChatGPT. ChatGPT is also said to be less accurate than competitors, as it makes mistakes in source citations, for example.
