Google tests option to change Gmail.com address

Google tests option to change Gmail.com address

Google is currently working on the option to change your Gmail.com address. Currently, users can only switch between different aliases.

A support document shows that Google is working on the ability to change your @gmail.com address or create a new alias, as noted by Bleeping Computer. In addition, the option appeared in a new message on Telegram. Since the support document is only available in Hindi, the rollout in Europe will take some time.

With this feature, Google aims to offer users more freedom and control over their email addresses. The feature has not yet been officially announced.

Change alias

Currently, users can already switch between different aliases for emails, but your main account with the @gmail.com address cannot be easily changed. This may change soon. “If the last part of your Google Account email address is gmail.com, you can replace that email address with an email address that ends in @gmail.com,” according to Google.

First in India

The Google support document originally appeared in Hindi (Indian language), so it is being tested there first. Presumably, a wider rollout will follow afterwards. Moreover, Google has not yet officially announced the feature, but the support document already indicates that the company is working on it.
