Google is putting its vibe coding tool Opal directly into the Gemini web application.
Google is integrating Opal into the web application of Gemini. This allows users to build simple AI applications, or Gems, in Gemini itself.
Opal integrated into Gems
Gems have been around since 2024 and are customized versions of Gemini for specific tasks, such as brainstorming, learning, writing, or coding. With the addition of Opal, users can now build new Gems themselves, fully tailored to their own workflow. Within Gemini, Opal appears in the Gems manager. There, Gemini automatically converts written instructions into a step-by-step plan, so users can immediately see how their app is structured.
Opal lets users create mini-apps by describing what they want to build in plain language. The AI converts that description into a working application, so no programming is required. The tool works with a visual editor in which the different steps of an app are clearly displayed. Users can arrange and link those steps to customize the behavior of their app.
Vibe coding is rapidly gaining ground
Vibe coding is becoming increasingly popular, although it is not a miracle cure. In addition to Google, startups and other AI players are also experimenting with similar tools.
Because Google is now implementing the trend in Gemini, it is targeting not only developers, but also ordinary users who want to create their own AI tools.
