Anthropic tests removing Claude Code from Pro subscription

Anthropic has conducted a test that removed Claude Code from the Pro subscription for some users.

Anthropic is experimenting with removing Claude Code from its Pro subscription, causing confusion among users. According to the company, this is currently a limited test involving a small group of new customers.

Confusion due to website change

Users noticed that Claude Code was suddenly no longer listed under the Pro plan on the subscription overview page. At the same time, other pages continued to indicate that Claude Code is indeed part of the subscription. This caused doubt among developers, who feared they would suddenly lose access.

Amol Asavare, Head of Growth at Anthropic, confirmed on X that this is an experiment involving approximately 2 percent of new Pro users. Existing Pro and Max subscribers will not see the change.

Expensive AI models

Avasare states that the use of AI tools has changed significantly, with more complex workflows and long-running agent tasks. “Max is designed for intensive chat use; at launch, it did not include Claude Code and Cowork did not yet exist.” Another major reason behind the test is that AI models cost Anthropic much more than what users pay via subscriptions.

He emphasized again on his X account that future changes will be communicated more clearly and that if anything actually changes, users will be notified in time so they don’t have to find out via X or Reddit. Anthropic has previously introduced limits and is now exploring further adjustments to restore the balance. The changes have been rolled back.
