PCs shipped 2.4 percent fewer in the third quarter of 2024 than in the same quarter last year, reports IDC. Factors such as rising costs and restocking, initially drove more sales, but now led to a slowdown.

A total of 68.8 million desktops and laptops were shipped in the third quarter of 2024. That is 2.4 percent less than the 70.5 million in the same quarter last year. However, this number is significantly higher than 64.9 million in quarter two. Sales increased due to higher costs and extra efforts to replenish inventory. That led to delayed sales in Q3 2024.

Lenovo and HP remain the strongest vendors in the PC market and saw their market share continue to rise in Q3 2024. Although Acer sold less than the other major players, it was not hit as hard as Apple. Apple experienced a hefty decline of 24.2% compared to last year. Acer, on the other hand, managed to post even a small growth of 4.4%. Dell declined slightly by 4%, but ASUS stood out for strong growth of 10%
