Adobe continues integration of NFTs

Adobe

Adobe is expanding Behance’s support for NFTs. The company is thus further carpentry to integrate the NFT hype into its portfolio.

Adobe Behance is getting support for the Polygon crypto platform. This will make it easier for users of the creative social network to display Polygon NFTs. The Polygon blockchain runs on top of Ethereum and is said to be more environmentally friendly on its own. Adobe therefore wants to tout a more ecological NFT alternative with the integration. Unfortunately, this does not succeed: the Ethereum network on which Polygon runs is notoriously environmentally unfriendly because of the extreme amount of electricity it inefficiently consumes.

Poor solution to non-problem

Adobe integrated NFT support for the first time last year. The company thus joins in the hype surrounding so-called non fungible tokens. These would be a way for artists to make money with digital art. As we recently analyzed, in practice they are a very poor way to achieve that goal. NFTs do not solve problems but create new ones, the environmental impact of which is probably the greatest.

By embracing Polygon, Adobe does seem to realize that NFTs come with an environmental impact that is difficult to account for. In practice, blockchain integration does not really solve anything and Adobe continues to contribute to the hype.
