Izimi is a free digital vault where you can safely store all your personal documents and share them with others.
We are all familiar with the government portal ‘Mijn Burgerprofiel’ where you can consult and request your personal data and files. But have you ever heard of
Izimi also distinguishes itself from ‘Mijn Burgerprofiel’ in that you can easily share files with others via the platform. You retain control over which documents you share with whom. Izimi was developed by Fednot: the federation of Belgian notaries.
Create an account
You can easily create a free account on the izimi.be website. Log in via Mygov.be, itsme or with your identity card via an eID card reader. Afterwards, you will receive a series of personal questions about your place of residence, e-mail address and notary, among other things. You can then invite friends or family members as contacts, with whom you can share certain documents in a later step.
Upload documents
As soon as your account is activated, you can start uploading documents. Your digital vault is divided into different categories such as finances, possessions or real estate. Within each category you can download related documents. For example, under the ‘real estate’ category you would put all your building plans, certificates or deeds. To do this, go to Real estate and click on Add.

Once you have added a file, you can further categorize it with self-made labels, or place it in multiple categories if relevant.
Share documents
Izimi not only provides order and structure in all your important and personal documents, you can also share them with friends or family. In a first step, you could already add people as contacts. This does not give them access to your personal documents yet. As soon as you explicitly share documents with certain people, they will have access to the document.
To do this, click on a file and select Share. Then enter the e-mail address. You can share one document with multiple contacts. This can be useful, for example, to share marriage certificates or building plans with your partner.
Transfer vault
In addition to individual documents, you can also choose to share your entire digital vault with someone. This situation will occur less quickly, but may be relevant in the event of illness, preparation for death or for administrative ‘unburdening’, for example.
Certify documents
Izimi provides proof of origin for data exchanged within the platform. Yet the accuracy of data is a challenge we face today. Izimi offers an extra service for this. You can have documents certified by your notary. He or she is authorized to authenticate data, the identity and the electronic or handwritten signature of persons. To add this extra layer of protection, contact your notary via the Services > Certification tab.
