Lenovo expands PC range: from portable and light to powerful desktops

Lenovo unveils several new computers. The manufacturer is expanding its range across all segments, ranging from new lightweight Intel laptops to desktops powered by AMD.

Lenovo releases a new batch of computers. The focus is on the introduction of new laptops, but the desktop segment is also getting some love. The manufacturer is not only embracing Intel with the latest Panther Lake chips but is also showing plenty of love for AMD’s Ryzen AI range.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7

The eye-catcher is the ThinkPad X13 Gen 7. This seventh iteration of Lenovo’s premium portable device has a 13-inch screen diagonal and weighs (depending on the configuration) just under a kilo. To achieve this, Lenovo uses a now-familiar trick: those who want to stay under that mythical 1,000-gram mark must settle for a battery capacity of 41 Wh. The laptop is also available with a more market-standard 54.7 Wh battery, but it will weigh slightly more.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7

The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 is, just like last year’s edition, configurable with chips from both Intel and AMD. On the Intel side, you can choose up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 with vPro, from the new Panther Lake (Series 3) range. You also have access to the latest chips from AMD, although Ryzen AI 400 is not a major revolution compared to 2024’s Ryzen AI 300.

Other noteworthy specifications include the 5 MP camera and optional 5G connectivity. USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) is present, as are USB-A and HDMI. RAM is configurable up to 64 GB LPDDR5x. Lenovo also notes that the design takes into account the need to replace components in a professional context. For example, customers can replace their own battery, SSD, WWAN module, or parts of the housing.

Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 7 and L16 Gen 3

Lenovo is also launching devices more aimed at the general public: the ThinkPad L14 Gen 7 and the L16 Gen 3. As the names suggest, these laptops have 14-inch and 16-inch screen diagonals, respectively. In both cases, you can choose Intel Core Series 3 with vPro or AMD Ryzen AI Pro 400. You can configure up to 64 GB of RAM.

The devices are available with the same 5 MP webcam as the ThinkPad X13. Regarding connectivity, Lenovo is more generous. On these laptops, for example, you will still find an RJ-45 port.

Lenovo is venturing an estimate of the suggested retail price for the new devices. This is likely subject to further implosion of the memory and component market. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 Gen 7 will be on shelves from May 2026, with an expected starting price of 1,599 euros incl. VAT. VAT. The Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 7 and ThinkPad L16 Gen 3 will be available at the same time and will cost at least 1,499 euros.

Lenovo ThinkStation P4

Lenovo is also announcing a desktop and is partnering exclusively with AMD for the new ThinkStation P4. This desktop workstation can be equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 9965X3D, featuring sixteen cores and a clock speed of up to 5.5 GHz.

AMD’s X3D chips have a special design where various CPU chiplets are provided with a massive amount of cache. The AMD Ryzen 9 Pro 9965X3D is a new model, equipped with 128 MB L3 cache and a TDP of 170 watts. The chip is the Pro variant of the previously launched Ryzen 9 9950X3D. The extensive cache memory makes the CPU highly relevant for workloads that benefit from it, such as (3D) simulation software.

Lenovo combines the CPU with a powerful GPU from Nvidia. You can fit an Nvidia RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Workstation Edition with 96 GB GDDR7 memory into the chassis. The system’s internal memory is configurable with up to 256 GB DDR5. Lenovo also notes that PCIe 5.0 support makes future upgrades possible.

Regarding connectivity, you’ll find the usual port selection for a desktop, although the number of USB-C ports is very limited. At the front, there is one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 connection, and that’s it. Otherwise, you’ll have to be satisfied with USB-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, and an RJ-45 port that supports 2.5 GbE, alongside some other optional connections such as a serial port.

The Lenovo ThinkStation P4 will be available from June. Lenovo has not yet shared a starting price for this device.
