Binance, the world’s largest crypto platform, has been hit by a cyberattack, the company says itself on X. The crypto company is currently investigating the security breach in which some 6.3 billion dollars (about 5.4 billion euros) is believed to have been stolen. As a precaution, Binance has suspended transactions on the platform. Three billion dollars of the stolen amount has since been frozen.
Hacked laptop
“Our initial investigation showed that the security incident may have involved a hacked laptop, but our further investigation has uncovered more points of breach,” the company said on X. “Users’ funds are completely safe,” a spokesperson told BleepingComputer.
Binance took immediate action and froze three billion dollars of the stolen amount. Transactions on the platform have also been suspended. “It was a complex attack and we are doing everything we can to resolve this in cooperation with others.” The company is currently working on a security update and plans to be operational again within 48 hours.
Binance is the world’s largest crypto platform where users can trade cryptocurrencies. If the amount actually stolen turns out to be higher than 1.5 billion dollars, it would be the largest crypto heist ever recorded. In a crypto theft in 2025, hackers made off with 1.5 billion dollars from Bybit.
