The Xiaomi 14T Pro is the latest addition to Xiaomi’s mid-range lineup. Xiaomi is aiming at the type of user who wants good performance without paying exuberant prices.
When the Xiaomi 14T models were announced, it was immediately clear that photography would be the flagship of this series. And for that, Xiaomi can rightly be proud. In addition, the smartphone charges quickly, offers nice performance and features a beautiful AMOLED screen.
Design
The design of the Xiaomi 14T Pro is nice, but does not feel like that of a smartphone in this price range ($899 inc. VAT). While the glass back and aluminum frame feel solid, the overall design is only slightly striking or distinctive. The “Titan Gray” color variant of this review copy looks industrial, but adds little character.
In addition, the transition between the frame and the back feels less seamless than what we expect in this price segment. Xiaomi opted for IP68 certification, which means the device is dust and water resistant, but that’s more of a standard than a bonus these days.

As previously mentioned, the casing feels sturdy, said to be “166 percent sturdier” than that of the Xiaomi 13T, but after two falls, the 14T Pro quickly shows damage. The frosted glass back has an aluminum look, but the aluminum does not appear to be at all immune to fingerprints.
Users who consider design as important as performance will find that this device makes little impression when placed next to other premium segment competitors.
Performance
Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14T Pro has the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chip. This is a powerful processor that can effortlessly handle heavy tasks such as gaming and video editing. Also thanks to the 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and fast UFS 4.0 storage, multitasking is a breeze. The device feels lightning fast whether you are opening apps, playing games or performing multiple tasks at once.

The 144 Hz AMOLED display is one of the highlights of the device. It is large, bright, colorful and, with a peak brightness of 4,000 nits, extremely readable even in direct sunlight. Every scrolling motion and animation feels smooth. Especially for media consumption, this screen is a delight with a resolution of 2,712 x 1,220 pixels.
Graphically, we can’t say anything bad about this MediaTek.

Cameras
The Xiaomi 14T Pro’s three cameras were developed together with German camera brand Leica, and it’s paying off. They sit on a distinctive island that fortunately doesn’t stick out far, so the smartphone doesn’t wobble when lying flat on the table. We think that’s a smart design choice.
The focal length of the three cameras ranges from 15 mm to 60 mm. During the day, the 50 MP main camera delivers excellent results. Details are sharp and colors vibrant, especially in outdoor photography. UltraHDR mode helps balance shadows and bright areas nicely.
So in good light, the main camera performs very well, with sharp details and natural color reproduction that is close to reality. You can choose between two Leica modes: Leica Authentic Look or Leica Vibrant Look. The difference between the two is big, so it’s best to choose the mode that best suits the photo you want to take at the time.

The use of a large 1/1.31″ sensor and an aperture of f/1.6 adds to the quality; the shutter speed is arrow-like. Even in complex lighting conditions, the camera manages to perform well, with little over- or underexposure. Light is rendered well in night photography.
The wide-angle lens also photographs just fine. Whereas the main camera sometimes still tries to brighten dark areas to show more detail, this lens does not. That makes for more dark photos, but again, more realism.
At extreme zoom, however, the camera system leaves stitches. Although AI algorithms try to reduce noise, some images are often sharpened too sharply. This gives brightly zoomed-in photos an unnatural look. This is unfortunate, especially since competitors handle this much better.

In terms of video creation, the Xiaomi 14T Pro also impresses. With video quality up to 8K and features such as Director Mode with support for different frame rates up to 960 fps, content creators can go a long way.
Still, the camera has software limitations. The AI post-processing is often too obviously artificial, sometimes giving portraits a plastic-like or too sharp look. A blurred background doesn’t always look natural either, so a better balance between natural and processed images would be a big improvement. Other manufacturers such as Oppo and Samsung, meanwhile, handle this better.
We do find the extensive manual control settings to be a positive. Photography enthusiasts can experiment with shutter speed, ISO and white balance, increasing creative possibilities.
Software
Xiaomi’s HyperOS, based on Android 14, is versatile software with plenty of features. It works very smoothly and gives the feeling of holding a pricey smartphone. The system offers a huge number of options to customize the device to your personal preferences. These include themes, extensive AI tools and advanced battery optimization. HyperOS gives users almost complete control over how the device functions.
One of its notable flagships is the integration of AI. This is reflected in a variety of applications such as Gemini, Circle to Search, real-time translation and smart photo editing. Xiaomi has not gone all out with the AI features, and that may be a good thing.
Yet these features also present some difficulties. Sometimes it’s not clear what AI brings or does exactly. Often you also have to download plug-ins for it.
HyperOS’s interface can be overwhelming, especially for users unfamiliar with Xiaomi, or those making the switch from iOS. The number of settings is large, and some menus feel unnecessarily complicated. As a result, new users may take longer to feel fully at home on the device, but that is a matter of habituation.
In addition, the presence of bloatware is a problem. HyperOS comes with a good number of pre-installed apps that are not always useful. WPS Office is no one’s business, although it may still be relevant, but for other applications such as TikTok, AliExpress and Temu there is no excuse. Certainly those last two, which allow you to have environmentally unfriendly junk flown to Belgium at rock bottom prices, do not deserve promotion by a self-respecting brand.
There is even a suggested gambling game (Slotomania) with in-app purchases on it, which is altogether a bizarre choice. Even youngsters can get their hands on this device. The inclusion of such apps crosses the line of the acceptable: degoutant. We thought Oppo had reached the bottom of the Bloatware pit with the Find X8 Pro, but Xiaomi shows it can smoothly dig deeper.
Those apps can fortunately just be uninstalled, but their presence raises the question of why they were installed or suggested in the first place. Just uninstall them, in other words.
Battery
The 5,000 mAh battery offers a good balance between usage time and charge time. With normal use, you can effortlessly achieve a full day on one charge. Intensive users can count on about sixteen hours, which is sufficient but not exceptional.

A minor setback is the lack of a fast charger in the box. To enjoy fast charging, you need to buy an official Xiaomi charger in addition. Online we can find those for 32 euros. Wireless charging is possible with this Pro model, with a nice speed of up to 50 W. While this is nice, competing brands such as Oppo also offer wireless charging at this power.
The battery may charge quickly, but compared to the competition, it does not last as long. This is offset by the fast charge time, but there is still some work to be done in the (battery) store.

Conclusion
Priced at $899, the Xiaomi 14T Pro offers a lot of hardware for a justified price. Too bad the austere design detracts from the overall look, especially at this price range, the hardware does not feel premium enough. The bloatware, especially the gaming app, completely ruins the premium vibe.
If looks are not important to you, and you can live with he type of apps Xiaomi promotes, the Xiaomi 14T Pro is a very interesting choice. This device is a features a fast-charging battery, a powerful processor and more than decent cameras. For those looking for the absolute best, there are obviously better options. But for this price, you get a very nice device that combines powerful performance with an excess of features.
