reMarkable Paper Pro Move Review: the Charm of Writing, the Ease of Digital

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move is your best friend for both taking notes during meetings or conferences and effortlessly capturing your creative ideas on digital paper.

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move is the successor to the reMarkable Paper Pro and brings digital paper back into focus, but in a smaller format. Unlike its predecessor, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move is, according to the company, ‘the most portable tablet to date,’ and we can confirm that. The tablet fits effortlessly into our bag, and taking notes during an exhibition or conference is efficient.

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move is available from 479 euros including VAT, including the standard stylus. If you opt for the Marker Plus, you pay an additional 50 euros.

In your Palm

The newcomer within the reMarkable series shares some similarities with its predecessor (reMarkable Paper Pro), such as a color screen that can display 20,000 colors, an adjustable reading light, and a promised battery life of up to two weeks.

The reMarkable Paper Pro is a lot more expensive (640 euros incl. VAT) than its smaller sibling (479 euros incl. VAT), but it is also significantly larger (A4 format). That can be an advantage for some, and a disadvantage for others. Creative professionals, in particular, will benefit from an A4 screen.

The latest version has shrunk to a size of 195.6 x 107.8 mm with a weight of only 230 grams. The tablet features a 7.3-inch color screen with a resolution of 1696 x 954 pixels. This small tablet fits effortlessly in your palm and can easily be taken anywhere: a great advantage during events or trade shows.

Furthermore, you can rotate the screen horizontally without glitches. This is useful if you want to write a lot and need a larger surface. Like the reMarkable Paper Pro, the tablet has 64 GB of storage, which corresponds to 810 notebooks.

Elegantly Packaged

A fine model in sophisticated packaging: reMarkable clearly paid attention to the ‘unboxing experience.’ We found no unnecessary plastics or paper guides in 101 languages explaining in great detail how the device works. Instead, a compact quick-start-guide. The brand also uses QR codes, for example, on the box with extra writing tips for the Marker.

Small but Robust Battery

In terms of battery capacities, the Paper Pro Move differs from its predecessor. A smaller size means a smaller battery. The reMarkable Paper Pro Move features a 2,334 mAh battery, compared to the 5,030 mAh battery found in the Paper Pro. According to the brand, both batteries last about two weeks, although in practice this applies to light use or standby. During a two-hour presentation and intensive use of the tablet, the battery dropped from 100 to 70 percent.

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move comes with a sufficiently long USB-C to USB-C cable. With this, you can charge the device up to 90 percent in approximately 45 minutes. That’s an immediate advantage of a small battery, as the Paper Pro takes twice as long.

Seamless Writing Experience

Paper enthusiasts will argue that nothing can match the experience of pen and paper. Nevertheless, the reMarkable Paper Pro Move comes quite close. Writing feels very natural, and you experience little resistance. The Marker and the screen are precisely coordinated, so there are no delays or glitches.

The writing experience is not comparable to, for example, a smooth iPad where you experience resistance and quickly ‘slip.’ Furthermore, the screen recognizes the stylus well. When you rest your hand on the tablet while writing, the screen does not jump due to additional touches.

You quickly master the various actions such as switching between writing, highlighting, deleting, or moving. This significantly boosts your productivity.

Extra Writing Tips

The stylus comes with six extra ‘writing tips.’ After intensive use, the tip becomes blunt, and it’s time for replacement. During our two-week test period, the tip started to wear down slightly, but it wasn’t yet ready for replacement.

For an additional 50 euros, you can opt for the Marker Plus with a built-in eraser at the end. That eraser works properly, but the surface is sometimes a bit too large, causing you to erase too much. We prefer the eraser option that you activate with the pen and whose thickness you can adjust for precise erasing.

Bringing Order to Chaos

On the reMarkable tablet, you can perform limited actions. You are not overwhelmed with notifications or unnecessary applications, allowing your focus to be entirely on taking notes or making creative sketches. These files must, of course, be well-organized and stored, so they don’t end up like real paper notes on a forgotten pile.

To store notes in a structured way, you can create folders or add tags. This allows you to easily navigate through your files and quickly find what you need.

Furthermore, you can synchronize your files with Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive so you can access them anywhere. This is only possible in PDF format. Additionally, you can convert notes into typed text. There is also the option to share your screen and send files directly from the reMarkable via email. This can be done in various file types, namely PDF, PNG, and SVG.

Connect Subscription

The reMarkable tablet comes with an (optional) subscription of 2.99 euros per month or 29.90 euros per year. The added value of the subscription primarily lies in access to unlimited cloud storage and synchronization, as well as up to three years of additional protection for your device. Furthermore, with a Connect subscription, you can manage multiple users and take notes on mobile and desktop apps.

We appreciate that reMarkable allows us to enjoy the most important features even without a subscription. For example, you still have access to integrations with Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, you can convert handwritten notes into typed text, share your screen, send files via email, and use tags.
