Samsung has announced the Galaxy S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra. We don’t see any major changes other than a new processor and even more AI features.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 series is official. Samsung, as usual, announces its latest flagship series early in the year. The series consists of the now familiar S25, S25+ and the top model S25 Ultra. Samsung had another surprise in store with the S25 Slim, but this version is coming to very select markets.
Recognizable design
The appearance of the Galaxy S25 handsets remains virtually unchanged. The base version is still the compact 6.2-inch flagship, while the S25+ measures a screen size of 6.7 inches. Samsung is putting the latest variant of Corning Gorilla Glass in the devices to make the display even sturdier.
Samsung is making some subtle design changes to the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The angular design is more rounded and the phone is 15 percent thinner. As a result, the screen “grows” to 6.9 inches without changing the phone’s dimensions. The chassis is once again made of titanium.
Snapdragon Elite
On the inside, Samsung is giving the S25 phones an expected processor upgrade. In doing so, this year it resolutely opts for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which we will still encounter in many premium phones. No model with a home-made Exynos processor will appear this year.
In terms of battery and cameras, we should not expect a revolution. The S25 has a 4,000 mAh battery, the S25+ 4,900 mAh and the S25 Ultra 5,000 mAh. Those batteries are half made from recycled cobalt from older Samsung phones. Every year we hope Samsung boosts the charging speed, but once again we have to make do with 45 W for the S25 Ultra and S25 Plus. The S25 charges at a maximum capacity of 25 W.
The S25 Ultra is the only device in the series to get a camera upgrade. Every year Samsung tackles a different camera. Last year it put a new zoom camera in the S24 Ultra and this year it is the wide-angle camera’s turn. That gets an upgrade from 12 MP to 50 MP to deliver sharper images.
The main camera (200 MP) and the telephoto camera (50 MP, 5x optical zoom) remain identical. The camera specs for the other two devices also remain unchanged. A 50 MP main camera is assisted by a 12 MP wide-angle camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera (3x optical zoom).
Even more AI
So the hardware of the Galaxy S25 series has remained virtually unchanged. For Samsung, then, the biggest innovation is in the software stuff. Samsung introduced Galaxy AI with the S24 series to bundle a wide range of AI-powered features and continues that AI push uninterrupted. The software is OneUI 7, based on Android 15.
Central to the AI offering is Google Gemini, which can now perform tasks across apps, such as overwriting dates from a Web page in your calendar. But Samsung also has its own AI features, such as Now Brief that gives you an overview of the day every morning or evening. The focus is on personalizing the user experience: Samsung says it sees Galaxy AI as a “human assistant.
For privacy, the Personal Data Engine ensures that AI functionalities work without exposing sensitive data. Knox Vault provides additional security, and Samsung is introducing post-quantum cryptography for protection against future threats.
Price and availability
The Galaxy S24 phones will be available starting in early February. The Ultra model will appear in four colors: blue, black, white and gray, with some additional options if you were to buy the phone online. Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ will be available in blue, silver and green. All models come with 12 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage for the Ultra. Samsung again promises seven years of security updates.
The starting price for the S25 is 899 euros. The Plus version starts at 1,149 euros. For the S25 Ultra you need to calculate at least 1,449 euros.
