Microsoft refers Surface Studio 2+ to the trash

microsoft surface studio 2+

The Surface Studio 2+ all-in-one PC is already no longer available in some markets, and Microsoft will no longer produce new models.

Those who still want to purchase a Surface Studio 2+ are done for. Through Microsoft’s Web store in the Benelux, the all-in-one PC (AIO) is no longer in stock and that will not change. According to Windows Central, Microsoft has stopped production and will only sell remaining stock. After that, the Surface Studio’s song seems to be sung.

Impressive screen, less impressive hardware

Microsoft launched the successor to the Surface Studio in the fall of 2022. The AIO stood out mainly because of its flexible display that you could place at different angles, to even lay completely flat. For that you paid a hefty price tag: the device cost 5,369 euros in the Benelux.

However, the Surface Studio was not synonymous with powerful hardware. The original 2018 version would not even meet the system requirements imposed by Microsoft for Windows 11, although Microsoft provided an exception for the product from its own stable. With an 11th-generation Intel Core i7 and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, you can’t call the Surface Studio 2 a powerhouse today either, especially when graphics professionals are the target audience.

Surface cemetery

There is little hope for the continued existence of the Surface Studio. Microsoft has not announced a third generation and does not seem to have any plans to do so. Microsoft wants to focus on Surface products that do sell well and has taken the chop through its offerings.

In the Surface graveyard, the all-in-one will be joined by the Surface Duo, another Microsoft product that cannot be called a great success. The spirit of the Surface will continue to live on in the Surface Studio Laptop.
