Logitech Launches Wireless Keyboard Powered by Light

Logitech’s new Signature Slim Solar+ K980 keyboard stays charged through sunlight or artificial light, eliminating the need for cables or recharging. Logitech releases a version for consumers and business users.

Logitech introduces a new keyboard for consumers and business professionals. The Signature Slim Solar+ K980, as the new product is fully named, initially appears to be an ordinary wireless keyboard. However, it has something special: the keyboard is powered by solar or light energy.

The Signature Slim Solar+ draws its energy from ambient light through the internal Logi LightCharge technology. This can be either natural or artificial light. The system uses a light-absorbing strip and a rechargeable battery with an expected lifespan of ten years.

Light as a Power Source

As a result, users do not need to charge or connect the keyboard with a cable. Even in complete darkness, the device continues to function for up to four months on a full charge. If the light goes out, an eight-hour light bath provides the keyboard with sufficient energy again. In a box, the battery remains charged for up to four years, and in a drawer, it can last for two years. At least 200 lux is needed to charge the keyboard, but more than 2000 lux is not ideal for the keyboard.

The keyboard offers a full-size layout with a numeric keypad and scissor-switch keys, designed to mimic the typing feel of a laptop. Additionally, the device supports various operating systems and allows users to easily switch between three devices using Easy-Switch buttons.

Logitech proudly announces that the keyboard is partially made from recycled plastic. The black version contains up to 70 percent certified recycled material.

Customize Shortcuts

For business users, Logitech offers a professional variant of the Signature Slim Solar+ K980. This version comes with a Logi Bolt USB-C receiver for a stable and secure connection. IT departments can manage the keyboard via Logitech Sync, providing insights into firmware status and product information.

Employees can customize shortcuts via the Logi Options+ app, including the AI Launch Key. This key can automatically open an AI assistant like Copilot or ChatGPT. In total, 23 shortcuts can be personalized, and with Smart Actions, users can automate recurring tasks.

Both variants of the keyboard will be available from October 6, 2025. The consumer version has a suggested retail price of 109.99 euros, while the business version costs 119.99 euros. In the Benelux, the keyboard will be available with the international and Dutch Qwerty layout, and Azerty for the Belgian outliers.
