HP revamps desktop PCs within Elite and Z series with new Intel and Nvidia chips

The new HP Elite 800 G9 desktop PCs get a refresh, as do the HP Z2 and the entry-level HP Z1 workstations.

Not only are HP’s laptops and all-in-one PC s getting an upgrade, but its desktops are getting one too. At CES 2022 it already launched the HP Z2 Mini G9, according to the manufacturer the world’s smallest powerful workstation. The device was equipped with new 12th-generation Intel chips including a number of other optimizations.

Now it’s the turn of the rest of the HP Z2 lineup. The HP Z2 SFF G9 is a powerful Small Form Factor (SFF) workstation that for the first time you can configure with an Nvidia RTX graphics card. The compact PC also supports the new Intel K-Series processors that you normally traditionally find only in PC towers, the traditional “bins” of yesteryear.

Speaking of baking, the HP Z2 Tower G9 also gets an upgrade to the latest 12th-generation Intel chips (also K-series) and, like last year, Nvidia RTX graphics cards again. Its hefty size means there is plenty of room for cooling, which limits throttling.

The HP Z1 Tower G9 closes the list as a budget-friendly workstation for designers and editors who need ISV-certified hardware.

HP Elite and Pro desktops

In addition to Z workstations, HP also announces a full update of its desktop range within the Elite and Pro series. At the head we find the HP Elite 800 G9 series available in three sizes: mini, SFF or tower. Each model gets a 12th generation Intel chip on board and optionally you can also configure an Nvidia RTX graphics card on some models.

Those looking for a more budget-friendly alternative can check out the new HP Elite 600 G9 series and HP Pro 400 G9 series. Both come with the latest Intel chips and an upgrade to DDR5 memory.

Each of the above Z, Elite and Pro models will be available starting in March, except for the HP Elite Tower 800 G9 (February) and HP Pro 400 G9 (May). Recommended prices will not be announced by HP until closer to the availability date.

Earlier this year, HP presented a lot of new devices at CES 2022. For example, it launched two new Dragonfly models including a variant with Chrome OS. All HP EliteBook laptops also received a refresh with the latest 12th generation Intel chips and also with the new AMD Ryzen 6000 chips.
