Thanks to an energy-efficient AMD Ryzen AI chip, smart cooling, and power supply via USB-C, you no longer need to plug this mini PC into a wall outlet (unless you want to).
Last year, HP introduced new names to make the line-up more transparent. On the desktop side, we no longer speak of Elite Mini/SFF/Tower but of EliteDesk. All-in-one solutions are no longer called Elite AiO but EliteStudio.
During HP Amplify, the major spring conference of the PC manufacturer, it announces four new series: EliteDesk 8, EliteStudio 8, ProDesk 4, and ProStudio 4. Just like with business laptops, HP also maintains the Pro designation at the lower end of the segment, not Elite.
HP categorizes desktops into three categories to clarify what performance you can expect:
- Desktop Next Gen AI PC: these desktops have an NPU on board that delivers between 40 and 60 TOPS. This meets the Microsoft Copilot + standard.
- Desktop AI PC: as long as there’s an NPU on board (less than 40 TOPS), the desktop gets this label.
- Desktop PC: No NPU on board.
HP EliteDesk 8 G1
HP EliteDesk 8 comes in three flavors: Mini, SFF (Small Form Factor), and Tower. Tower is self-explanatory, the traditional desktop ‘box’. SFF sits between a mini PC and a traditional desktop. Both series are equipped with a previous generation Intel chip on board. This means they don’t meet the Copilot + standard that Microsoft launched last year. They carry the label ‘Desktop AI PC’ or ‘Desktop PC’.

However, it’s the mini PC that we find by far the most interesting of all newly announced models. The HP EliteDesk 8 Mini G1a has an AMD Ryzen AI chip on board (no Intel option) and is Copilot + compatible or ‘Desktop Next Gen AI PC’ according to HP. Extra special: this mini PC gets its power via USB-C. If you have a monitor with USB-C, you can connect the HP EliteDesk 8 Mini G1a directly to it and don’t need a second power outlet.
HP ProDesk 4 G1
HP ProDesk 4 comes in three formats: Mini, SFF and Tower and are only available as ‘Desktop AI PC’ with the previous generation Intel chip. There’s also a ProDesk 2 G1 variant available with AMD chip in the same category in Tower and SFF.
HP EliteStudio 8 G1 and ProStudio 4 G1
All new All-in-One models from HP within the business segment have Intel chips on board. They fit within the ‘Desktop AI PC’ category, which corresponds to the previous generation Intel chips. The main difference between the two is the level of finish, camera quality, and screen quality.

The HP EliteStudio 8 AiO G1i has an integrated KVM capability. Via HP Device Switch, an employee can use the all-in-one for work or quickly connect their laptop to the AiO with a single cable to power the notebook and access all available peripherals.
HP Series 5 G1 Monitors
As a final note, HP is launching three new monitors. Here, the naming has also been overhauled and we now refer to Series (Pro).

During HP Amplify, we get three new models within the Series 5 monitor range:
- HP Series 5 – 527da: 27 inch, Full HD, 100 Hz, 16:9 IPS, 2x 2W speakers, focus on HDMI, height adjustable
- HP Series 5 – 524da: 23.8 inch, Full HD, 100 Hz, 16:9 IPS, 2x 2W speakers, focus on HDMI, height adjustable
- HP Series 5 Pro – 527pf: 27 inch, Full HD, 120 Hz, 16:9 IPS, 100% sRGB, 2x 2W speakers, HDMI and DisplayPort, height adjustable, swivel base
No prices or availabilities are known yet for the announced desktops and monitors.
