HP continues its reputation of causing printers to stop working after new updates
HP is once again under fire due to a firmware update that prevents users with LaserJet MFP M232-M237 printers from printing, even when using HP’s own ink cartridges.
Firmware update causes error messages
The update, version 20250209, was rolled out on March 4 and according to HP, it contained “security updates, bug fixes, and improvements.” However, users on HP’s support forum report that their printers suddenly display error code 11 and that the toner indicator keeps flashing without apparent reason. Even replacing toner cartridges or cleaning the contacts does not resolve the issue.
HP acknowledges the problem and says it is working on a solution, but has not provided details on how widespread the issue is. The company is directing affected customers to the support page.
HP’s reputation with printer updates remains problematic
This is not the first time HP printers have malfunctioned due to an update. In May 2023, a firmware update caused several OfficeJet printers to be stuck on a blue screen for weeks. Additionally, HP is known for its strict anti-third-party policy, where firmware updates block printers using non-HP ink or toner.
