Framework is increasing DDR5 memory prices again due to RAM shortages

Framework is adjusting the prices of its DDR5 memory modules again due to ongoing RAM shortages.

Due to rising memory prices, the modular PC builder Framework is increasing its prices per gigabyte for 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB modules, with even higher prices for larger capacities.

The Verge writes that the 8 GB module is increasing from $60 to $80, 16 GB from $120 to $160, and 32 GB from $240 to $320. The largest increase is for the 48 GB module, which more than doubles from $240 to $620. The 64 GB ($640) and 96 GB ($1,240) modules are also becoming more expensive.

DIY customers affected

The price increase applies to the configurable memory in Framework’s DIY Edition laptops. The company does not sell separate DDR5 modules to protect its own stock. Those who want to avoid the higher prices can order the laptop without memory and provide their own RAM.

Framework previously increased prices earlier this month and warns that this may not be the last adjustment. According to suppliers, memory prices will continue to rise until early 2026. “We have absorbed part of the cost increase ourselves, but it is likely that we will have to adjust again within a month,” it says. Price reductions will only follow when market costs effectively fall.

Memory crisis continues

IDC expects the global memory shortage to continue until at least 2027, as major players such as Micron, Samsung and SK Hynix shift production capacity to the AI market. This puts pressure on prices for PCs, laptops and other electronics.
