UPS specialist Eaton launches a series of simple UPS systems for home users and SMEs: Eaton 3P Ellipse.
Eaton introduces Eaton 3P Ellipse. This is a series of UPS systems aimed at simple use within the context of an SME or a home office. The devices have a surprisingly sleek design for a UPS and are meant to be quiet in operation. These units succeed the Ellipse ECO UPS series and can protect a wider range of devices thanks to their higher power capacity.
Capacities
The series consists of multiple variants, with the lightest device supporting 550 VA and 330 watts. The most powerful variant can handle 1,700 VA and 1,040 watts. Inside are one to two lead-acid batteries. The most powerful model can support a connected load of 200 watts for approximately 35 minutes.

At the back of the UPS, there are always four power outlets, all of which offer surge protection (for example, in case of lightning strikes). Depending on the model, either all of these outlets or three of them are connected to the UPS battery. For devices connected via these outlets, the UPS will compensate for power outages.

The entry-level model of the series offers little more than that, but more advanced models come with relevant extras such as a USB-B connection. This allows you to link the UPS to, for example, a NAS, so it can monitor the power supply. If the power fails and the UPS battery runs out, connected devices can preventively shut down safely.
For SMEs and Individuals
Eaton is also looking at more private use, and therefore includes a USB-C port on the front. This can be used to conveniently charge a smartphone, for example.
In a business context, Eaton promotes the 3P Ellipse series as suitable for protecting, for example, a powerful workstation from power failures, or keeping a NAS and router online during a power interruption. For home use, the UPS devices can protect a multimedia center, ensuring the TV doesn’t immediately turn off and the PlayStation doesn’t choke on an update.
Given the design, the UPS fits on a desk, or on and in a cabinet. Mounting in a more professional setting is also possible. Eaton also provides the option for remote management, but support for this is not included as standard.
Price and availability
For the entry-level model Eaton 3P Ellipse 700 DIN, we see a recommended price of 106.36 euros excluding VAT. For the Eaton 3P Ellipse 1700 USB IEC, equipped with all the bells and whistles, this goes up to 304.71 euros excluding VAT. The series is reminiscent of the Eaton 3S family, which looks more like a power strip but is also entry-level friendly.
