Dell launches new business laptops: new internals with Intel or AMD

Dell Technologies introduces its new portfolio of Dell Pro laptops. In this line-up, a single chassis offers space for a wider variety of components. The latest Intel CPUs play a major role, but AMD is also part of the mix.

Dell Technologies is launching new Dell Pro laptops. Dell has overhauled the motherboard under the hood of this product family. A more modular approach has created extra space, which Dell utilizes for features like larger fans. Furthermore, the energy density of the batteries is expected to improve across the entire line. Within the same chassis, Dell supports both Intel and AMD options.

Dell Pro Premium

Dell Pro Premium is the flagship of the new line-up. This 14-inch device is thinner than its predecessor. Dell has opted for a magnesium chassis and an OLED panel. The 8 MP resolution webcam is a standout feature, theoretically delivering above-average image quality for this segment.

The aforementioned chassis flexibility doesn’t quite come into play here yet. Dell Technologies is launching this Premium laptop exclusively with Intel Core Ultra Series 3 internals. You can configure the laptop with up to a Core Ultra 7 366H with sixteen cores. The entry-level CPU is a Core Ultra 5 335 with eight cores. Storage options range from 256 GB to 2 TB. Regarding RAM, you can choose between 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB LPDDR5x.

The Dell Pro Premium is expected to be on shelves by the end of this month. A suggested retail price for the entry-level model is currently unavailable. All other laptops are expected starting in May and also do not have target prices yet.

Dell Pro 7

The new Dell Pro 7 laptops are available in 13-inch and 14-inch sizes. In each size, the product family consists of a standard laptop and a 2-in-1 variant with a fold-back screen. In all cases, you can choose between an Intel or AMD CPU. For AMD, the entry-level option is a Ryzen AI Pro 435, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 as the top-tier choice. For Intel, options range from a Core Ultra 5 322 to a Core Ultra 7 366H.

Memory and storage options are the same as for the Dell Pro Premium. The lightest configuration therefore features 16 GB RAM and 256 GB storage. Dell points out that this device also includes an 8 MP webcam. These laptops are designed to appeal to professionals who are frequently on the move.

Dell Pro 5

The Dell Pro 5 is the workhorse of this announcement. Under this name, Dell places 14-inch and 16-inch laptops, again configurable with Intel or AMD chips. Configurability is key: you can choose from five CPUs in the AMD Ryzen 400 range (from AMD Ryzen AI 5 Pro 435 to AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470) and six variants from the Intel camp.

In Intel’s case, options start at a Core Ultra 5 322 and go up to a Core Ultra X7 368H. The latter is only available with vPro; for all other chips, Dell offers the option to omit vPro to slightly reduce the (unknown) price.

Memory options are even broader here, showing the impact of the memory shortage. Indeed, you can configure these laptops with a very modest 8 GB RAM for situations where multitasking is not required. 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB are also possible. Notably, the 8 GB variant can only be configured with an Intel chip. Regarding storage, 256 GB remains the smallest SSD option and 2 TB the largest. Video calling is possible with an FHD camera, but the 8 MP variant remains an option.

Dell Pro 3

The Dell Pro 3 devices are the most entry-level friendly. With these computers, Dell is targeting administrative support staff who do not require an exceptional device. Again, you can choose between a 14-inch and a 16-inch chassis with Intel or AMD. For Intel, Dell refers to as-yet-unnamed Core Ultra Series 3 chips, as well as unspecified options from the lighter Series 3 Intel Core range, which has not yet been officially launched.

For AMD, this involves several AMD Ryzen AI 400 options, from a Ryzen AI 5 Pro 435 to a Ryzen AI Pro 450. Dell only lists memory options between 16 GB and 64 GB. Those opting for the yet-to-be-launched Core chips without Ultra will have to wait a bit longer for more details. Presumably, there will also be an option for 8 GB here. Storage options are the same as for all other devices. Regarding the webcam, a camera with a basic HD resolution is the standard, but you can also opt for FHD. The 8 MP variant is not available.
