Anthropic has released its chatbot Claude as an extension for the Chrome browser. The extension is available in beta for all paying users. The extension allows Claude to visit websites, fill out forms, and perform scheduled tasks across multiple tabs.
The new extension, Claude for Chrome, is available to users with a Pro subscription of at least $20 per month. That’s a significant reduction compared to the earlier testing phase, when the feature was only available to users of a more expensive subscription. In addition to Chrome, the extension also works in browsers that rely on the same Chromium architecture, such as Edge, Brave, and Opera. Browsers like Firefox and Safari are not supported for the time being.
With the extension, Anthropic is further investing in so-called agentic AI. This involves an AI system performing actions instead of just answering questions. In this case, it concerns tasks that are normally performed by the user in the browser. The chatbot Claude gets access to multiple tabs and can automate interactions on websites, driven by their own model Opus 4.5.
Attention to risks and security
Anthropic acknowledges that a chatbot deeply integrated into the browser entails additional security risks. The company points to prompt injection attacks, among other things. In this case, malicious parties try to incorporate misleading instructions into web pages to have a language model perform unwanted actions.

To limit that risk, users can determine per website whether Claude gets access. These settings can be adjusted at any time. In addition, the extension explicitly requests permission for actions with an increased risk, such as publishing content, making purchases, or sharing personal data. Claude also automatically blocks itself on websites that are considered risky, such as banking services, pornographic sites, or platforms with illegal content.
Anthropic is not alone in this development. OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Atlas earlier this year, a similar browser-oriented AI feature that also requires a paid subscription. For users who do not want to pay a subscription, there is also Perplexity Comet, which has been made available to free users since October.
