The Claude chatbot can now insert visual material such as tables and charts directly into the chat conversation, instead of in a separate window.
A picture is worth a thousand words. With that in mind, Anthropic is adding visualizations to chat conversations with Claude. The feature is launching first in beta and is available for all different Claude plans.
Visual output is not entirely new to Claude. Anthropic previously introduced the ‘artifacts’ feature, which already allowed Claude to produce visual material. The difference is that visuals are now integrated directly into your chat conversations, and you will also be able to interact with the visual material.
Say it with a visual
In a blog post, Anthropic explains that Claude can create charts, tables, and other types of interactive visuals, among other things. Claude does this upon explicit request, but also considers when a visual might help make the conversation clearer. If you are having a conversation with Claude about chemical elements, there is a good chance the chatbot will eventually show you a periodic table.
Claude further adjusts the content of the visuals as the conversation progresses. The visuals are interactive, allowing users to click on them. They are saved within your chat history, which means that, unlike ‘artifacts’, they persist along with the conversation.
The addition of interactive visuals fits into other expansions Anthropic has implemented to make chat conversations with Claude more lively. For instance, Claude also has visual formats for recipes and weather reports. You can also make use of integrations with design tools Figma and Canva. OpenAI and Google are also focusing more on visual output to brighten up AI conversations.
