Asus has unveiled the XG Mobile 2025, an external Thunderbolt 5 video card.
According to Asus, this the XG Mobile 2025 is the world’s first external Thunderbolt 5 video card. The device combines the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 mobile GPU with a docking station, all through a single cable. The eGPU has up to 140 watts of power, support for two monitors, USB and SD card readers, and 5 Gbps Ethernet.
Fast, faster, fastest
Thanks to Thunderbolt 5, the XG Mobile offers bidirectional connectivity with a maximum bandwidth of 80 Gbps. According to Asus, this can result in up to 64 Gbps of bandwidth specifically for graphics performance. The device has a compact design, including a built-in 350-watt power supply, and comes with HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 output.
The XG Mobile targets users who need a powerful and portable docking station. Asus claims the design is 25 percent lighter and 18 percent smaller than its predecessor. In addition to the version with an RTX 5090 for $2199.99, a cheaper model with an RTX 5070 Ti will be available for $1199.99. The price in euros is not yet known.
Although the device is compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 laptops, Asus stresses that maximum performance is only available with Thunderbolt 5.
Expected in the first quarter of this year, the XG Mobile 2025 offers a compact solution for those who want to combine performance and mobility.
