Zoom AI Companion 2.0 with personalization capabilities generally available

Zoom is expanding its AI Companion with new task management capabilities and personalized AI services. The platform now offers an advanced workplace experience thanks to AI and is generally available starting today.

Zoom AI Companion 2.0 is generally available starting today. Zoom announced the new version of its AI Companion early last month during Zoomtopia 2024. This hefty update enables the integration of information from various Zoom and external applications, such as Outlook and Gmail, and helps users optimize their workflow.

The AI Companion offers personalized suggestions and performs tasks based on context, making for a more efficient workday. A new optional add-on is also available for advanced customization, such as integrating company data and external applications such as Asana and Workday.

Zoom itself suggests the following improvements:

  • Expanded context: AI Companion now better understands what the user sees in Zoom Workplace, remembers previous interactions and provides relevant suggestions based on that.
  • Synthesizing information: AI Companion uses information from Zoom Workplace, including Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Docs, Zoom Mail and, when connected, from Microsoft Outlook mail and calendar, Google Calendar, Gmail and uploaded documents, spreadsheets and presentations. AI Companion can also retrieve information from the Web via Perplexity to provide summaries and answers to specific questions.
  • Taking Action: AI Companion can now help you identify and complete action items. With the launch of Zoom Tasks, AI Companion will soon help users even better by making actions within Zoom Workplace visible, monitored and completed. While this functionality is part of Companion 2.0, it will not be available until the end of this year.

Task management and adjustments

‘Zoom Tasks’ is a tool that uses AI to identify, recommend and complete tasks based on communication in Zoom Workplace. Users will soon be able to use this feature to manage and complete their tasks throughout the day without interrupting their workflow.

The new add-on will allow companies to further personalize the AI Companion, for example with company glossaries or by automating actions through other tools. The add-on, available from the first half of 2025, will cost $12 per user per month.

Zoom Companion 2.0 is available at no additional cost to users with a paid Zoom Workplace subscription.
