Windows 11 gets its last Patch Tuesday update of 2025

Microsoft is releasing the last Patch Tuesday update of the year.

With KB5072033, Microsoft has rolled out the last security update of 2025 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. As it is the December update, this is also the last of the year.

Dark mode is now consistently applied everywhere

A visible improvement is the further rollout of dark mode, writes Windows Latest. File Explorer now displays every window in dark mode, including pop-ups. Before the update, pop-ups sometimes appeared in light mode even if the user had set dark mode. Windows Search also aligns better with the Start menu: the search window now has the same height, which creates a more consistent look.

The update brings more clarity to the settings for virtualization and developer options. Under Advanced settings, features such as Windows Sandbox, virtual machine platforms, and container support can now be managed centrally, instead of being scattered across different menus.

Stability and maintenance

KB5072033 also includes a series of stability and maintenance fixes: Microsoft is addressing issues with Explorer, crashing background processes, and performance issues at high resolutions. A memory leak on the lock screen has also been resolved.

The update is mandatory and will be rolled out automatically via Windows Update. The update contains extra components, such as AI-related components for Copilot+ PCs, which makes the installation package rather large at 4.2 GB.
