WhatsApp Tests New ‘Liquid Glass’ Design on iOS 26

whatsapp

The iOS app of WhatsApp will soon adopt the Liquid Glass design of Apple’s iOS 26.

WhatsApp is embracing Apple’s Liquid Glass design choice with the WhatsApp iOS app. It focuses on transparency, depth, and smooth animations. The update is currently being tested with a limited group of users of the WhatsApp 25.28.75 beta.

Transparency and Layers

Liquid Glass brings transparency and layering to the WhatsApp interface. WABetaInfo was already able to view the new design. Bars and menus appear to float above the background, which should create a sense of depth. The interface also dynamically adapts to light and dark modes.

The taskbar has been completely reworked and gets a semi-transparent look with soft blurs and smooth animations. The active tab gets a dynamic width, which should ensure a tighter and more modern navigation. The keyboard has also been renewed: it now uses Apple’s Liquid Glass keyboard, which lightly reflects the background. All buttons in the app now have a semi-transparent finish with soft reflections. The context menu has been given the same glassy effect, with smooth transitions and transparent layers.

Gradual Rollout

With this update, WhatsApp wants to strengthen the visual coherence of the app: every part, from the taskbar to the menu, follows the same design principle. Some elements still look the same for the time being, but will be adjusted later.

The Liquid Glass interface is currently being rolled out gradually to iOS users and beta testers. WhatsApp is using the test period to improve stability and performance, with the intention of making the renewed interface more widely available soon.
