WhatsApp status gains new features including likes and private mentions.
WhatsApp is increasingly taking on the look and feel of a social media platform like Facebook and Instagram. The communications platform is adding new features to WhatsApp statuses, namely status-find-likes, private notifications and the option to re-share a status you have been named in. The features are being rolled out gradually to all users worldwide.
Likes in WhatsApp status
WhatsApp status is part of the Updates tab in the app, which allows you to notify other contacts of your status based on a photo or video. These updates disappear automatically after 24 hours, and are very similar to Facebook and Instagram stories.

WhatsApp status lets you hand out hearts and add private mentions
WhatsApp is now expanding this “status experience” even further. Users will soon be able to “like” others’ status updates, or add private mentions. With the latter, only those you mentioned in the status will see the message appear. In addition, you can re-share a status in which you yourself are mentioned.
To go to your WhatsApp status, in the app, go to the tab Updates at the bottom. Then, at the top, you will see My Status, where you can add your own status. Here you can select photos and videos, add text and choose who gets to see this status update. So with the new features, you will also be able to mention other people privately, or “heart” other people’s statuses.
WhatsApp announces that this new feature is being rolled out gradually and will soon be available to all users. The company also added that more features will appear in the coming months for Status and the Updates tab.
