WhatsApp is working on support for group calls in the web version.
According to WABetaInfo, group calls are said to be in development for WhatsApp Web. Recent beta versions have spotted references to buttons for voice and video calls within group chats. With this, WhatsApp wants to align the web experience with the mobile apps for Android and iOS.
Up to 32 participants
The number of participants for group calls is expected to be limited to 32, just like the smartphone version of the chat app. WhatsApp may also choose to initially allow a lower number of participants, such as eight or sixteen, and then scale it up. That limit is intended to guarantee better quality and stability.
WhatsApp is also working on the ability to create call links from group chats. This allows users to create a shareable link for a voice or video call. Scheduled calls are also in the pipeline, allowing users to set a name, description, and expected start and end time, so participants know in advance when a call will take place.
Still in Development
Voice and video calls, the call link, and the function to schedule calls are all still in development and will likely be rolled out to all users in a future update. WhatsApp has not yet shared any official communication about these features or a new update.
