WhatsApp gets its own built-in contacts list so you don’t lose them when you switch smartphones.
WhatsApp is going to integrate its own contact list so that your contacts are always kept safe, even when switching to a new smartphone. Currently, the app uses your phone’s contact list, which can be inconvenient if you lose your device and haven’t backed up to the cloud. WhatsApp wants to prevent that with this feature, The Verge knows.
Available on (almost) all devices
Users can save and manage their contacts directly in the app, both in the mobile and Windows versions. They will soon be able to do the same on other devices linked to WhatsApp. WhatsApp has teamed up with Cloudfare to develop an encrypted technology that ensures complete privacy, called “Identity Proof Linked Storage.”
So it is possible to create contacts directly in the app and sync them with other devices, or you choose to make them available only in the mobile app. For example, you can create a contact list specifically for your WhatsApp account. This is useful if you use both a personal and work account on your smartphone.
WhatsApp is updating its app considerably. For example, you can recently change your background, hand out hearts and block messages from strangers. Coming soon is another new feature to save contacts by username instead of phone number.
