Qnap adds a new feature to its ‘NAS search engine’ Qsirch. RAG Search allows you to perform more complex search queries within your NAS.
Qnap introduces a new RAG search feature for version 5.6.0 of Qsirch, the search engine for your NAS. This technology combines Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) with public cloud-based LLMs.
This allows users to retrieve information within a NAS system in a contextual manner. The search queries take into account the meaning of questions and can summarize or analyze information.
Searching in Your NAS
QNAP makes it possible to choose from various LLM providers such as OpenAI, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Azure OpenAI. Compatible models like DeepSeek and Grok are also supported. This way, users can select the most suitable service based on their needs.

RAG Search focuses on secure data processing. Users determine which folders in the NAS are analyzed. Only the relevant content is sent to the cloud for processing. The type of files is also customizable. Qsirch supports Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, and email files, among others.
Local AI
With RAG Search, companies can consult up to five relevant documents in the search results. This increases the traceability of information. It’s also possible to request real-time information. The NAS always shows the latest versions of files.
The new search function supports 23 languages, making it suitable for multilingual document collections. According to QNAP, RAG Search should help to gain insights faster and make better decisions.
The addition positions QNAP’s NAS as a knowledge hub within a private cloud environment. This allows organizations to manage sensitive information locally while still benefiting from cloud-based AI capabilities.
