OpenAI brings its AI coding assistant to multiple locations for developers, including in the IDE and on GitHub.
OpenAI announces an update for its agential coding tool Codex. The AI programming assistant for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users can now collaborate in your terminal or IDE, on the web, in GitHub, and from the ChatGPT iOS app. Additionally, developers can now work more easily between their local environment and Codex’s cloud without losing state.
Better collaboration
The latest updates to Codex improve integration with development environments and simplify usage. Thanks to a new extension, Codex now works in Visual Studio Code, Cursor, and other VS Code-based editors. Developers can view and modify their code locally with Codex support. Moreover, the ability to log in with a ChatGPT account eliminates the need for API keys, both in the IDE and via the command-line interface (CLI).

Codex now also supports seamless collaboration between local and cloud environments. Developers can start tasks locally and then forward them to the cloud for asynchronous execution without losing state. The revamped CLI offers an improved user interface, additional commands, and bug fixes. Finally, there’s a new feature for automatic code reviews in GitHub. Codex can automatically review pull requests or provide feedback when mentioned in a comment.
