Google’s NotebookLM gets new update with targeted AI conversations

Google on Thursday updated the AI-driven summary options of its AI assistant NotebookLM.

NotebookLM is a Google AI assistant for keeping notes and research in. Users are given several options to summarize their resources, such as formatting frequently asked questions, a timeline or study guide. They can also generate podcast-style audio conversations about the content they share.

Determine the outcome of the conversation

NotebookLM can also generate audio conversations based on shared content, such as long documents or websites. Google now allows those AI conversations to be guided and focused on specific topics.

Until now, NotebookLM generated only automatic conversation. That way, speakers often deviated from the topic or circled the pot. So now the overview of that AI conversation is customizable. That way, users can steer the conversation to things that are interesting to them, Techcrunch knows.

This helps prevent the AI from starting to muse on irrelevant topics. Google stresses that the user instructions are not used to train the AI model. There is also the option to set up the conversation in the background. Users can then continue uploading resources or use other features in NotebookLM.
