Now, the company is phasing out this communication platform and will fully focus on its flagship product, Microsoft Teams.

Switching to Teams

Skype’s retirement date was set for May 5, 2025, and the company has adhered to it. Microsoft is not leaving its Skype users completely in the cold and offers them the opportunity to switch to Teams.

In a farewell message on X, Microsoft encourages its users to switch to Teams Free. For those who still have Skype credit or a subscription, they will not lose their balance. Microsoft informs that the credits will be retained and can be used in Microsoft Teams Free.

To make the transition to Teams, you can log in to Teams with your existing Skype account. This way, you automatically gain access to your existing contacts, group conversations, and even chat history. You can also export Skype data such as chat conversations or contacts.
