Microsoft Bids Farewell to Skype: Teams Takes Full Control

Microsoft Teams Skype

Microsoft Announces the End of Skype and Encourages Users to Switch to Its Flagship Communication Platform Teams.

Microsoft will definitively end Skype on May 5, 2025. This communication platform has existed for over twenty years. In 2010, Microsoft acquired the platform for a valuation of 8.5 billion dollars. Now, the company wants to start phasing out this communication platform and fully focus on its flagship Microsoft Teams.

Switching to Teams

The retirement date for Skype is set: May 5, 2025. Microsoft is not leaving its Skype users completely in the cold and offers them the opportunity to switch to Teams. Users now have sixty days to do this. Skype will remain interoperable with Teams until May 5. Messages sent via Teams can still be delivered to Skype users during this time.

Moreover, it will remain possible to use paid Skype features and credits. However, these will no longer be offered to new users.
