Microsoft addresses long-standing bug in Outlook

microsoft outlook windows

Users with more than five hundred folders, have long experienced problems sending mail with Outlook. Microsoft is rolling out an update.

Microsoft has good news for Outlook users who collect folders as if they were stamps. A bug in Outlook prevents users with more than 500 folders from sending emails. An update for the problem is rolling out starting in October, although it will take until December to reach all users. The problem has been dragging on for at least a year.

Five hundred folders

The limit on the number of folders was lifted to more than five hundred in 2019. Microsoft initially thought this problem was only caused by too many shared folders, but this can also occur if your primary mailbox has too many folders. Users affected by this bug often get a notification that their mails were not sent.

Microsoft expects to put a fix for the problem in a preview update in early October. If that update does not have too many glitches, which is no mean feat at Microsoft, the fix will be more widely available starting in late October. An update through the Enterprise channel will wait until December.

Reduce folders

In anticipation of the fix, Microsoft advises users to reduce their number of folders to no more than 450. Surely it will also make your mailbox a little more organized. If you still want to keep your five hundred folders, then folding a few folders can also make a difference.
