Microsoft Notepad also gets AI text editing

Microsoft provides Notepad with AI text editing with the Rewrite feature.

Soon you will be able to improve your texts in Notepad in Windows 11 thanks to the AI feature Rewrite. Microsoft writes in its blog that the feature includes rewriting sentences, and adjusting the tone and length of your texts.

For now, only for Windows Insiders

Windows Insiders using Windows 11 can try the new feature in preview now. Select the text you want to edit, right-click and choose the Rewrite option. A dialog box will then appear in Notepad with various options for rewriting the text. You will then be shown three alternate versions of the text so you can select the most appropriate one.

Users must be logged in with their Microsoft account because the feature is powered by a cloud-based service, The Verge knows. Rewrite is not the only AI feature Notepad got in a short time. Microsoft also gave the word processor AI spell check and auto-correct; as well as the Cowriter feature that helps you rewrite notes.

Windows Insiders can also get started with new AI photo editing tools in Paint. Generative Fill lets you add things to images based on prompts. Generative Erase removes distracting elements from photos and automatically fills that empty space.

The Rewrite feature is currently available exclusively to Windows Insiders with Windows 11 Copilot Plus PCs in selected countries. For now, the feature is not available in Benelux, and a public release date has not yet been announced.
