Microsoft is taking the classic version of Outlook in hand. Two bugs for copying text and adding Gmail accounts have been fixed.
Microsoft has given the “classic” version of Outlook a major maintenance. Two annoying bugs have been fixed, Microsoft confirmed in separate status updates. The first bug was related to copying text, another to adding Gmail accounts.
Cut and paste
The hotkey combination CTRL + C, engraved in the collective memory of every Windows user, made classic Outlook “freeze. This prevented you from copying text the quick way. Microsoft confirms that the bug has been fixed in version 2501 of Outlook (Build 18410.15040).
For now, though, it is only available through the mail app’s preview channel. If you prefer to wait for the stable release, you will have to be patient until Jan. 27, when Microsoft will roll out the Outlook update widely. Companies that receive updates through the Enterprise channel even have to wait until March.
Gmail
A second bug addressed by Microsoft prevented you from linking your Gmail account to Outlook via IMAP. Gmail integration ensures that you can read emails to your Google address in Outlook as well. This is useful when, for example, you have a personal Gmail account and a business Microsoft account and don’t want to have to constantly switch mail applications.
The Gmail bug provoked two possible error messages. Either you got the message that Outlook could not log you into the incoming IMAP/POP server or that the Google account could not be set up with IMAP. In version 2412 (Build 18324.20168), Microsoft is adding a Try Again button to the window.
If that button doesn’t work, there is another manual workaround. Very exceptionally, Microsoft recommends signing into Gmail and denying access for Microsoft applications. You do this by going into your Google account settings in the menu Security going to Connections to third-party apps and services . Here you can disconnect from Google settings for each application.

In a second step, remove IMAP references for Google via Reference Management. You can find this menu under User Accounts in the Control Panel. Find the reference MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 (under General Reference) and delete the reference for each Gmail account. Open Outlook and add your Gmail account again.
Starting this month, Microsoft will begin transitioning everyone to the new version of Outlook. The switch is no longer voluntary but mandatory. You can keep going back until the final phasing out of the classic Outlook app if you don’t like the new version.
