Google drops breadcrumbs from urls in mobile search results

Google is making changes to the breadcrumb element in Google search for mobile devices.

Google notes in a blog post that the breadcrumbs in mobile search results are not clear. From now on, breadcrumbs in the mobile version of Google Search will be shortened to just the domain details and not the full url. For desktop users, nothing will change.

Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs or “breadcrumbs” show you as you browse how you arrived at a particular search result. This is a handy way to track where your search results came from. On mobile versions, this can cause you to get a long line of urls above your search result, making it cluttered.

According to Google, “the breadcrumb element is not useful for people searching on mobile apprats because it is cut off on smaller screens.” Only, the changes will also apply to larger smartphones that do not experience that problem. The breadcrumbs will still be displayed on desktop.
