Gmail is expanding end-to-end encryption to mobile devices. Organizations using client-side encryption can now securely send and receive sensitive emails on Android and iOS devices, without the need for additional apps or mail portals.
Google has announced that end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Gmail is now also available on Android and iOS devices. This expansion targets business users who want to secure their emails via client-side encryption (CSE). Until now, this feature was primarily limited to the web version, but users can now compose and read sensitive messages on their smartphones or tablets as well.
E2EE in Gmail
Users with an active Gmail E2EE license can now compose an encrypted message directly from the Gmail app on Android or iOS. All that is required is to activate the encryption via the lock icon when composing an email. This allows you to easily send confidential information, including attachments, without changing the user experience.

Recipients do not necessarily have to use the Gmail app. If they do, they will receive the message as a regular email thread in their inbox. If the recipient uses a different app or reads the message via a browser, they can still reply securely and seamlessly. This ensures security is maintained, regardless of the platform or device.
For organizations, it is important that administrators activate the feature in the CSE admin interface of the Admin Console. Only after this step will end users gain access to end-to-end encryption on mobile devices.
