GitHub Launches Spark: Faster from Idea to App

GitHub introduces Spark, a tool that brings vibe coding to GitHub and aims to speed up production.

GitHub has launched Spark in public preview for Copilot Enterprise customers. The new tool promises to help organizations turn ideas into working software faster. “Where weeks are often lost on specs or mock-ups that never make it to production, Spark lets you build immediate prototypes that can make it into production,” according to the announcement.

Vibe Coding

Users can build apps by describing their idea in prompts. With that, GitHub is tapping into the vibe coding trend. “Spark automatically generates frontend and backend functionality, with built-in hosting, deployments, and GitHub authentication. GitHub says you can put your app live with one click and then securely share it with your team.”

AI functionality can be added later via models from OpenAI, Meta, xAI, and others. You can also have your codespace improved by the Copilot AI agent, or assign an issue to the coding agent.

Availability

Starting today, Spark is immediately available in preview for all Copilot Pro+ and Enterprise customers. The feature is turned off by default, but Enterprise admins can enable Spark in GitHub. After that, Spark is accessible to all linked users.
