Critical bug halts even Windows Insider versions

The bug hinders almost all basic tasks and functions of Windows. Microsoft is working on a solution.

The Windows team has discovered a bug so severe that all planned Insider builds have been temporarily halted. According to Microsoft, the bug even affects simple basic tasks or functions in Windows such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB, webcam, and Windows Hello.

Persistent error

Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Product Manager at Windows Insider, calls it “a very serious bug.” He continues: “This specific bug affects builds that we have not yet released to Windows Insiders and is the result of a code change.” Windows Insiders remain unaffected, as Microsoft absolutely does not want it to reach the hands of testers.

The bug causes problems such as connecting to accessories and logging in with facial recognition. Everything freezes immediately. Bugs in Windows Insider builds are to be expected, but this one takes the cake. It’s so bad that even Windows Insiders on the Canary channel are suffering from it. In the Canary channel, users can try out new features that may not make it to stable versions or only arrive later.

Solution on the way

Microsoft expects to roll out a new and stable Canary build by the end of this week. That would be just in time for Microsoft’s developer conference Build in Seattle, writes The Register. It does show that Microsoft is attentive and wants to prevent Windows releases with major errors from reaching the general public.
