Claude AI can now write and execute JavaScript code by itself

Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude can now write and execute JavaScript code.

Anthropic has launched a new analysis tool that allows its Claude chatbot to write and execute JavaScript code. The tool, currently only available in preview, allows Claude to perform calculations and analyze data from files such as spreadsheets and PDFs.

Claude in practice

The analysis tool allows Claude to make complex calculations, process data and develop ideas before giving an answer. For example, a product manager can upload sales data and ask Claude to analyze performance by country, and an engineer can enter financial data and have a summary of trends. Although Claude could already perform similar tasks, the results could not be verified mathematically. That led to inaccurate answers.

Google offers a similar feature with its Gemini models, Code Execution, which generates and executes Python code. Recently, the tech giant launched Gemini Code Assist Enterprise that provides coding support. OpenAI’s Advanced Data Analysis also enables their models to write and execute code.

The analysis tool has been available to all Claude users through its Web interface since Thursday. To use the tool, users can log in to Claude.ai.

To write code, you preferably also need a PC. Anthropic is also testing another new capability to let Claude work independently with a PC. Among other things, Claude can fill out digital forms for you and search for necessary information in local files and Web applications by himself.
