Asus’ innocent Christmas wreath appearing on several Windows 11 PCs takes on the unfortunate appearance of a malware banner.
Asus’ Christmas wishes are not going as planned. The brand ran a promotional campaign on some PCs, causing a Christmas.exe in the task manager as well as a banner with Christmas wreath to appear on your screen. Unfortunately, this already created a lot of panic among users, who thought it was malware. So do you see these appearing as well? Then there is no reason to panic.
Christmas Wreath
Asus’ Christmas banner and related Christmas.exe process left a lot of users in limbo. The banner as seen in the screenshot below appeared on some users a few days ago. The Christmas wreath with lights takes up a large part of your screen, and has a red button in the middle. A lot of users noticed this when booting up their Asus PC, and shared these findings in a forum post, noted Windows Latest.
The culprit is Asus Armoury Crate, which comes pre-installed on some systems. So if you don’t want Asus to spam Windows 11, you can use the official uninstaller for Asus Armoury. The banner would also disappear on its own after the holidays.
